Obama visit to india

US President Barack Obama on Saturday announced that "several landmark" deals worth $10 billion (nearly Rs 44,000 crore) have been reached between the two countries for creating about 50,000 jobs in the US.

Beginning his three-day maiden visit to India by paying homage to the victims of 26/11 attacks, he said he was looking forward to deepening partnership in counter-terrorism during his meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Describing his visit to India as an "extraordinary honour", he said he wanted to tell the people of India "how much we are looking forward to spending the next three days in this remarkable country and deepening the partnership between the two countries."

Arjuna Award 2010 given

Former Indian hockey skipper Sandeep Singh and women's cricket captain Jhulan Goswami were among the 15 sportspersons who received the Arjuna Award from President Pratibha Patil at a glittering ceremony in New Delhi on Sunday.

Boxer Dinesh Kumar, swimmer Rehan Poncha, world's second youngest Grandmaster Parimarjan Negi and Olympian wrestler Rajiv Tomar also received the Arjuna award for their achievements in the last one year.

Badminton ace Saina Nehwal received Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.

CWG 2010 theme song Swagatham launched

The Commonwealth Games theme song "Swagatham" has been launched by Oscar winning music director A R Rahman on saturday at a glittering ceremony at Gurgaon near New Delhi.

Rahman sung the song in front of a gathering which included Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, her Haryana counterpart Bhupinder Singh Hooda and CWG Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi.

The hour-long launch function also saw some enthralling dance performance by 'Sadya' group followed by another Gypsy group dance show by the artists from Shiamak Davar Institute of Performing Arts.

Tejaswani Sawant wins historic gold at World Championships

Tejaswini Sawant scripted history on Sunday by winning a gold medal at the World Championships with a world-record equalling score in the 50m Rifle Prone event in Munich, Germany. Tejaswini became the first Indian woman shooter to win a gold at the World Championships.

The 29-year-old, who clinched gold medals in the Commonwealth Games Air Rifle event, was level with Poland's Ewa Joanna Nowakowska in the final score but managed to clinch the top honours with a better perfect score tally of 41.

Olga Dovgun of Kazakhstan won the bronze with a sore of 596.

Oscar-winning Hollywood actress Julia Roberts has converted to Hinduism. She has started visiting temples, chanting and following Hindu spiritualistic rules despite being from Georgia which is considered to be the part of the bible belt of America and her parents being a catholic and a Baptist. The enchanting damsel claims that now is a actively participating Hindu follower which is later confirmed to the Elle magazine for its coming September issue.

Daniel Moder’s wife, Julia Roberts, tells that she and her husband still go Indian temples to pray. Even her kids have been going to temples regularly.

Julia was born to a Baptist and catholic parents. Julia married Daniel Moder in 2002.
